WATT Renewable Corporation was founded in March 2017 with a bold vision: that sustainable energy could do more than provide power – it could strengthen infrastructure, improve productivity, expand connectivity and unlock long-term development.
Our founding came from a clear recognition that the power sector held both urgent challenges and significant opportunities. Across key industries and underserved areas, unreliable energy continued to constrain growth, limit service delivery and weaken operational resilience. We saw an opportunity to help bridge that gap and create meaningful impact through intelligent, dependable and cleaner power systems. This belief was reinforced by earlier developments in Canada, where major projects had already highlighted the importance of innovative solutions in addressing rural electrification.
From the outset, our vision has been to act as a catalyst for energy transformation by integrating clean energy technologies with critical infrastructure to deliver lasting economic and social value.
Our early work in Nigeria focused on the telecommunications sector, where power reliability is central to uptime, connectivity and service continuity. By supporting the TowerCo ecosystem with renewable energy solutions, we established ourselves as both an energy and infrastructure partner, helping to reduce carbon emissions, minimize downtime and strengthen network resilience.
As we grew, so did our scope. WATT expanded its solutions to serve a wider range of critical infrastructure sectors, including Mobile Network Operators, the financial sector and commercial and industrial clients, supporting their transition from diesel dependency to hybrid and fully solar-powered systems. Through our Energy-as-a-Service model, we enhance power reliability while helping client’s lower emissions and operate more efficiently.
Guided by the principles of the Electrification Act of 2023 and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, WATT has continued to play a meaningful role in advancing clean energy adoption across the continent.
